Why Some Private Schools Perform Better Than Public Schools
Many people believe private schools are always better than public schools, but that is not always true. A school does not perform well only because it is private or public. Performance depends on good leadership, discipline, supervision, teacher commitment, and parental support.
In some communities, public schools may have teachers with HND, degree, and master’s qualifications, but still perform lower than private schools where some teachers are SHS leavers. This shows that certificates alone do not produce good results. A qualified teacher must also be committed, punctual, serious, and well supervised.
Private schools sometimes perform better because teachers are closely monitored. Lesson notes, homework, classwork, tests, and students’ progress are checked regularly. Since parents pay school fees, they also follow up and expect good results. This creates pressure on both the school and teachers to work harder.
Discipline is another major reason. When students come to school early, do their homework, respect teachers, and take learning seriously, they perform better. But when there is poor discipline, even the best teacher may struggle to get good results.
Public schools are very important because they educate many children, especially those whose parents cannot afford private schools. However, public schools can perform better if there is strong supervision, active headteachers, serious teachers, disciplined students, and supportive parents.
The truth is simple: a good school is not about being private or public. A good school is built on discipline, commitment, supervision, good leadership, and parental support.
Do you think public schools can perform better than private schools if teachers, parents, and school leaders work together?
